ROLE OF THE COUNCIL ADVANCEMENT COMMITTEE

The Council Advancement Committee is a supervisory group responsible for guiding the district advancement committees and insuring that policies and procedures of the BSA are being followed.
Specific duties include:

  • Train advancement committee members at the district & council levels
  • Promote advancement in units through council events and publications
  • Recommend candidates for national awards
  • Approve merit badge counselors & publish lists
  • Serve as am appeal board for district boards of review
  • Present special council awards
  • Plan the annual Eagle recognition banquet
  • Determine procedures for summer camp advancement
  • Assist with summer camp counselor training
  • Act as a liaison between the Northeast Georgia Council and the National BSA offices for advancement issues within this council
  • Review procedures used by units in applying advancement
  • Track council advancement
  • Maintain merit badge counselor lists
  • Eliminate obstacles so that a member may receive advancement without delay.
How?
  • Offer annual training for unit and district level advancement leaders which cover the advancement policies and procedures
  • Insure that the Scout Service Centers are aware of the procedures in place in each district pertaining to Eagle Leadership Service Project proposal reviews and Eagle Boards of Review.
