Special Note on Applications

All Hornaday-related awards are managed locally by the Northeast Georgia Council, who in turn submits to the national office of Boy Scouts of America.   Please submit all applications to either the Lawrenceville or Jefferson council service centers.

Award Applications

William T Hornaday Unit Award                                      UNIT  (Pack, Troop, Crew, Team, Ship)

Complete the application for the unit award and submit it to the Lawrenceville or Jefferson council service center. The local council will then forward the application to the national office of the Boy Scouts of America. The project description form should indicate the category of the project—soil and water conservation, fish and wildlife management, forestry and range management, energy conservation, air and water pollution control, resource recovery, or hazardous material disposal and management; the specific title of the project; and a detailed description of what was done, who did it, when it was done, and how it was done. Be sure to include any other pertinent information.

William T. Hornaday Badge                                              SCOUT

Complete the application for the badge and submit it to the Lawrenceville or Jefferson council service center. The local council will then forward the application to the national office of the Boy Scouts of America. Be certain the applicant and the conservation adviser sign the application before it is sent to the council office. Be sure to check and date all merit badges completed. The project description form should give a detailed description of the project as indicated under the unit award above. Boy Scout and Varsity Scout applicants must complete these requirements before their 18th birthday. Venturer applicants must complete requirements before their 21st birthday. Following council approval, the application is forwarded to director of Outdoor Programs, Boy Scouts of America.

William T. Hornaday Gold Medal                                 ADULT SCOUTER 

This award is by nomination only and is for an adult Scouter or Venturing leader who has rendered distinguished and unusual service to natural resource conservation and environmental improvement over a sustained period (at least 20 years). Nominations are accepted from any recognized conservation/environmental protection organization. The nominee’s accomplishments must be at a regional, national, or international level.

William T. Hornaday Medal (Silver or Bronze)             SCOUT

Applicants for the William T. Hornaday bronze or silver medal must complete the forms.The completed application is sent to  the Lawrenceville or Jefferson council service center. Be certain the applicant and the conservation adviser sign theapplication. Determination by the Hornaday Awards Committee of the applicant’s qualification is made solely from the information included in the application and supporting materials. Boy Scout and Varsity Scout applicants must complete these before their 18th birthday. Venturer applicants must complete requirements before their 21st birthday. Following council approval, the application is f orwarded to director of Outdoor Programs, Boy Scouts of America.

William T. Hornaday Gold Badge                                ADULT SCOUTER 

Complete the nomination form for the gold badge and submit it to  the Lawrenceville or Jefferson council service center. The local council will then forward the application to the national office of the Boy Scouts of America. Be certain to include the necessary letters of nomination and endorsement. Following council approval, the application is forwarded to director of Outdoor Programs, BoyScouts of America.

William T. Hornaday Gold Certificate                       ORGANIZATIONS OR INDIVIDUALS 

The nomination form should be completed and forwarded, together with supporting materials, to director of Outdoor Programs, Boy Scouts of America. Include the names and phone numbers of others the Hornaday Awards Committee can contact if additional information is needed.
