Who can Attend Family Camping Weekend?
If any member of your family is registered with the Boy Scouts of America, your entire family (regardless of age) can attend Family Camping Weekend.
What is Family Camping Weekend?
Family Camping Weekend is a council-organized camping activity that involves packs and troops from all over Northeast Georgia. It is your opportunity to spend time at beautiful Camp Rainey Mountain, North Georgia’s finest Boy Scout Camp. Spend the weekend with your entire family participating in all kinds of Scouting Fun or just sit, rock and relax or take a family hike. Camp Rainey Mountain is near Clayton, GA in Rabun County - a short drive to many other entertaining activities for your family.
When is It?
Family Camping Weekend begins on Friday, May 2nd and concludes on Sunday, May 4th. You may check-in on Friday evening from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. or on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Where is Camp Rainey Mountain?
Camp Rainey Mountain is located in Clayton, GA in Rabun County. Maps can be found in the 2008 Cub Scout Guide to Summer Outdoor Activities, here on our web site, and in each of the Northeast Georgia Council Service Centers
What Will We Do at Camp?
Activities will include:
Art Activity, Outdoor games, BB shooting & archery, Horseshoes & games, Leathercraft,
Guided hikes to BIG ROCK, Family Hikes, Council Campfire, and more.
Optional activities(on your own):
Hiking, Exploring, Fishing, Relaxing (Rocking chairs provided!)
A non-denominational chapel service will be offered on Sunday morning.
Cost?? - How Much Does the Weekend Cost?
If your completed registration form along with your payment is received in the Council Service Center
on or before April 24, the fee for the entire family is only $18.00. If you register after April
24, the fee is $28.00. The fee on the day of the event is $38.00.
You will receive one collector’s participation patch per family for the weekend activity.
If you would like to purchase extra souvenir patches for other members of the family, they are
available to pre-order at $3.00 each. Extra patches may not be available on the weekend of the
event.
How About Meals??
All meals are on your own. Campfire rings are located in each group campsite. Adults may use
personal camp stoves for cooking - BSA policy on the use of fuels must be followed.
Camp fees are transferable - but not refundable. Requests to transfer fee must be made in
writing to: Family Camping Chairman, P O Box 399, Jefferson, GA 30549.
Camping Questions & Answers:
- What should I bring?
- You will need a tent, sleeping bag or blankets, pillow, insect repellent, extra shoes & clothing, toiletries, raincoat or poncho, flashlight, eating utensils and plate, food (cooler for food), cooking utensils, money for the Trading Post (camp store), & your Scout Spirit!
- What is an Adirondack?
- An Adirondack is a 3-sided wooden shelter with a roof and a floor. They are located in some of the campsites, but not all.
- How do I get my gear to the campsite?
- All vehicles must remain in the camp parking lot. Upon arrival (until 11 a.m. on Saturday), vehicles will be allowed to drive into campsites to unload gear. Cars must then be returned to the camp parking lot.
- Please Carpool
- Only one vehicle will be allowed in a campsite at a time. If several families are camping together, this will decrease the time you must wait to unload.
- Will the summer camp tents be up?
- No
- If everyone from my Pack or Troop attends, can we camp together?
- Families will be registered together in campsites by unit (Pack /Troop). Campsites are assigned upon your arrival by the volunteer Family Camping Weekend Chairman and are based on availability and date the registration is received in the Council Service Center.
- Will the Waterfront be open?
- Sorry, No swimming
- Can I fish in the lake?
- Yes ~ bring your own fishing gear and bait. NO fishing from the swimming docks.
- Are there restrooms / showers available?
- Yes. There are centrally located shower and restroom facilities.
- Can I bring my cat, dog, or other pet?
- Sorry, for everyone’s safety and comfort, pets are prohibited.
- All campers must adhere to BSA and Camp Rainey Mountain camp policies.

- Friday 6 - 10 p.m.
- Saturday 8 a.m. - 11 a.m.
- Can I attend for part of the weekend?
- Yes, however; the cost is the same for part or all.
All campsites must be vacated by 11 a.m. on Sunday
