Shooting Sports at Rainey Mountain
Basic Shotgun or Rifle course participants will get the NRA’s The Basics of Shotgun or Rifle Shooting handbook, and intensive lessons in safety, gun handling, fundamentals of shotgun shooting, several practical exercises on the firing range, cleaning, storage, and a summary of shotgun and rifle sports and activities. Both courses will include information about firearm knowledge and safe handling, ammunition knowledge and fundamentals of shooting, and shooting sports and activities. In addition, practical skills will include firing the first shots (includes cleaning and storage), and standing shooting positions (including prone, kneeling, and sitting positions for Rifle.) This course is a required prerequisite for the NRA Instructor course, and a minimum firearm handling and marksmanship competency must be demonstrated to successfully complete the course. More information about the courses of fire, written testing, etc. will be provided during the course. There are no provisions made for youth that are not participating in the course.
